A Court of Frost and Starlight
So. Lakin told me about this series of books in a sly sort of way. A hushed voice, a side eye. It might've been a bit like a back alley deal. Lakin doesn't steer me wrong with book suggestions. And a year later and on the other side of 10 of Maas's novels, I can honestly say I am a fan.
These books read like the best roller-coaster. I had no idea what I was getting into with A Court of Thorns and Roses, but it was truly an entrance to such a great story. These novels are all over 400 pages (and the novellas are pretty hefty as well), but I read them faster than anything else I've read the last two years. And then have the WORST book hangover. And then I tell someone else to read them and get to relive the cycle with them. It's like a constant spawning process.
So, after A Court of Wings and Ruin and the long wait for the next installment in the Throne of Glass series I was super pumped to find out that Maas had an idea for a Court novella and we'd get it early in 2018.
This is the first novella of her's I've read. (Gasp! Shock! I know!) I picked it up at the bookstore a couple days after it came out and finished it pretty quickly thereafter. It was funny to read a book set around the Winter Solstice/Christmastime in the super hot summertime of Florida. But it added to the charm.
This is a small little glimpse between two stories. Maas wrapped up the main story she wanted to tell between Feyre and Rhys and now the series is going to focus more on the other characters and the world she's built. So, there is not a TON of action. Mostly, just the couples being cozy and loving and the singles being broody and lost and lots of ART!
It's nice to see the characters in a relatively calm environment and try to pick up the little hints for where the story is going to go next. Court #5 isn't slated to come out until 2019 sometime. (That's okay, this lady pumps out novels like nobody's business.) This definitely won't hold me over on its own. The next Throne of Glass book comes out this fall, though. And then it'll probably be time for a re-read. Haha. The addiction is real, y'all.
Have you read any of her books? What do you read for the pure joy and fun of it all?
